A critical skill for historic preservation professionals is the ability to identify and describe the (potential) historic resources they work with. Knowledge of architectural history and styles is a key component. You will demonstrate your ability to identify architectural styles and write architectural descriptions through buildings you select on a scavenger hunt.
Buildings you select should be at least 50 years old or otherwise be of exceptional significance. Find an example of each of the seven categories, photograph its primary façade, and write an architectural description:
The category that each selection satisfies should be based on the purpose the building was built for, not its current use. You should identify at least three different architectural styles for the project. Your submission should include at least one photo for each topic and an architectural description. Your description should include at least what style it is, how many stories, what its character-defining features are, and how the windows, doors, and other openings are arranged.
