PROCEDURE . Navigate to, download, and install the free version of Google EarthTM Desktop. Do not use the Google EarthTM plug—in or Google EarthTM mobile application. This exercise is not designedfor those platforms. . Download the Fluvial Landformskmz ﬁle supplied by eScience Labs. . Open the Fluvial Landformskmz ﬁle by selecting the ﬁle from the folder where it was saved. Google EarthTM will launch once you double—click on the ﬁle. . The ﬁle will show up as a folder in the "Places" Sidebar (on the left of your screen) with the name eScience_Fluvial Landforms. Click on the little white arrow to the left of theeScience_Fluvia1 Landforms ﬁle to open the ﬁle and see the contents. . You should see locations labeled A—H, "Fan Elevation Proﬁle," and "Zone of Erosion." Double— click on A, and the globe should navigate to its location. To visit each location, simply double—click, and you will ﬂy there on the globe. Look around each area using the navigation arrows onthe top—right of the screen (and look at any posted photos in the area). If you get lost, double—click on the location in the side—bar, and you will be brought you back to the original spot. . Before you complete the exercise, make sure you have the correct units selected. Go to "Tools" in the menu bar, and select "Options" from the drop-down menu. In the "Units ofMeasurement" box, select "Meters, kilometers." Click "Apply" and then click "OK." . Double—click on Location A (if you are not already there). Locate "Oxbow Bend" near the "A" placemark. Answer questions 1, 2, and 3 on the Exercise 1 Data Sheet. . Double—click on Location B. Explore this area of the Colorado river and then answer questions 4 and 5 on the Data Sheet. . Double-click on Location C. Answer question 6 on the Data Sheet. Double-click on Location D.
